Okay so you think all old movies are boring. This one is not only not boring, it leaves a lasting impression on everyone, even younger kids. Gene Tierney, (who later was committed to an insane asylum), plays widow Lucy Muir, who escapes her horrible bitch in-laws by moving into an old house on the English seacoast. Despite the warnings of her realtor that the house might be haunted, the fearless young widow calmly moves in with her young daughter Anna (Natalie Wood) and housekeeper, Martha .
Sure enough, the place is haunted by the spirit of its previous owner-a rough, profane, yet somehow attractive sea captain named Daniel Gregg (Rex Harrison). When Lucy refuses to be frightened by Captain Gregg, he takes a liking to her, and the two become close friends . Realizing that Lucy is in financial trouble, the Captain offers to dictate his colorful memoirs to her, which she promptly turns into a best-seller and a lasting literary career. Slowly but surely, Gregg falls in love with Lucy.
